Into the Wild: Note, Chapter 1

Format:
T- Tell me something about what you read
EX- Write out an EXcerpt from the book (with citation) related to the most significant or pivotal point in the reading
Example: "My father was crying. It was the first time I saw him cry. I had never thought it possible" (Wiesel 19).
T- Try to understand better by asking a question
Y- How does it relate to you? OR, if it does not relate to you; How did reading this make you FEEL?

  1. (T) This chapter talks about his hitchhiker picker upper person.
    (EX)"A rifle protruded from the young mans backpack, but he looked friendly enough; a hitchiker with a Remington semiautomatic isn't the sort of thing that gives mortorists a pause in the fourty ninth state."(Krakauer 4) This quote says that Alex was to gaurd himself with.
    (T) Why would you pick up a dude witha a gun even if he seemed friendly?
    (Y) This realtes to me because i have seen a person like this before but we have had the knowledge to not pick him up

  2. (T) This chapter explains Alex's last hitchhike to get to where he needed to go. (EX) "Then, smiling broadly, he disappeared down the snow-covered tracks" shows the sheer irony of picking up an armed hitchhiker (Krakauer 7). (T) Why is Alex doing this? (Y) My uncle lives in Alaska.

  3. T A man named alex trys to get to Denali national park.
    EX "greetings from fiarbanks! this is the last you shall hear from me wayne. Arrived hear 2 days ago. it was verey difficult to catch rides in the yukon territory. but i finally got here. pleas return all the mail i receiv to its sender. it might be a long time befor i go down south. if this adventure proves fatal and you dont ever hear from me again i want you to know you're a great man. i now walk into the wild. Alex" (Krakaure) 3
    T did anyone ells think that he know he was going to die do you think he know he was going to die?

  4. T This chapter talks about the few people that last had contact with Mr."Alex"
    Ex "As the truck lurched over a bridge across the Nenana River, Alex looked down at the swift current and remarked he was afraid of water."
    T What was "Alex" thinking?
    Y I have been camping and it is not easy.

  5. T - this chapter says many things first we find out he will die, then we find out that he dissapears and is found in Alaska
    EX - "he didn't appear to be very old:eightee, maybe nineteen at most. ( Jon Krakauer 3 )
    T - why Alaska
    Y - i wouldnt choose to go to Alaska i would go somewhere nicer

  6. T = This first part is of a a hitchhiker named Alex and his conversation with the man who picked him up.

    EX = The hitchhiker swung his pack into the bed of the Ford and introduced himself as Alex (Krakauer 4).

    T = How is leaving a warm bed, food, shelter, and many other things supposed to be the "good life"?

    Y = I've never been to Alaska, but my parents are thinking about one day taking us on an Alaska cruise.

  7. (T) these pagees talked about how he through out everything burned his cash and started a new life.
    (EX) " A year ago down in Mexico". (Jon Krakauer 5)
    (T) Why did he want to start a new life style?
    (Y) If I was going to do this I would not let it become a new start for me.

  8. T this chapter talks about Gallien meating this hitchiker alex and they are going to the stampede trail.
    EX "It represented a route called the Stampede Trail." ( Krakauer 5)
    T Why was he giving away all his money?
    Y i would probably go to alaska if i wanted a new start too.

  9. T: WOW (NO OFFENSE TO THIS GUY BUT...) HE IS AN IDIOT FOR, AT LEAST NOT TELLING SOMEONE WHERE HE IS.

    EX: "The date was Tuesday, April 28, 1992" (Krakour 7)

    T: Why would he do that?

    Y: This relates to me because i have been camping before (but i had supplies)

    T. WHY IN THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD WOULD SOMEONE THIS SMART PACK SUCH LITTLE GEAR!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

    Y- i've been camping, but that's as much as this geek is willing to do.
