"Contract with God" Graphic Novel Article

  2. (T) We learn all about the "first" widely popular graphic novel A Contract With God, and the frenzy it started. (EX) "I truly believe that Spiegelman's "Maus" should be shelved next to Elie Wiesel and Primo Levi, not next to X-men" (Chip Kidd). (T) Why is this graphic novel so important yet I have not heard of it? (Y) I want to read it.

    EX: " Will Eisner's 'A Contract With God' published in 1978, gets the credit for being the first graphic novel, even though it was not actually the first long form graphic story nor the first use of the phrase."

    T: Why does it get the credit then? And why does the article start from another point: "...But 'graphic novels'" that part.

    Y: Like everyone else has said i want to read it

    (T) Why does it have the title the first graphic novel?
    (Y) Graphic novels are really cool to read!!!

    EX. "A small publishing company took the project and put the phrase" A graphic Novel" on the cover, thereby permanently cementing the term into the lexicon (Shanower 3)

    (T) shanower is continuing the summary of the history of the graphic novel by including "a contract with god"

    (T) did they really not record anything before that as the first? Wow

    (Y) mom read "A contract with god" to me when I was 11.
