  4. (T) John moves on to Hattiesburg and continues to be treated poorly. (EX) "She answered rudely and glared at me with such loathing" (Griffin 50). (T) Did any of you guys know truly how it was before this book? I knew it was bad but this is wretched to an infinite degree. Why must we always have hate? Is it human nature, or just a sick thing that people do to boost their own low self-esteem? Why do people favor embargo over lending a hand? Are we really that different? Am I the only one here who thinks that our society needs to grow up and move past the thinking level of a 4 year old? Am I the only one who counts hate as a deadly and contagious disease? Why am I bothered by this so much? Is this more than a low blow? What happened to the love, honesty and forgiveness? (Y) I can't believe how contagious hate is, but love is brushed aside as an impossible idea.

    (EX)"A large, pleasent Negro woman smiled at me across the aisle."(Griffin 59)
    (T) What's the difference between black people and white people were all human.
    (Y) Just incredible how so many people could hate another race just for having a different color then them.

    T = What is Cristophe's problem?

    Y = I'm a little confused about some things, but I get the general Idea.

  9. T When John gets on the bus there is a man that starts to rambel on about how bad black people are and he is black.
    EX "Did your grandma live down there or was that your father."
    T why would you do that
    Y If I was there I would ask him why he was dising his own race.

  10. Cough, cough, still sick, cough, cough

    (T) a well dressed "Negro" man gets onto the greyhound and denounces all of the black people there.

    (EX) he sat sidewise in an empty seat across the asile from me and began to harangue two brothers." J. Griffin-53

    (T) it's after the holocaust, why do people insist on discrimination and hate? What are people smoking that they completely miss the idea and thought of why WW2 started? Are we really that immature? We have done this to Jewish people, Indians, Spanish people, African Americans, and Asian people. Have we learned nothing of our mistakes? I agree with arnot completely.

    (Y) I figured out why the Negro was denouncing the others. He isn't a Negro, but a bellato. Most bellatos were considered neither black or white, which is probably why he was being discriminatory. Also the gangster factor but it still gives him no right.
