TEXTY
T- Tell me something about what you read
EX- Write out an EXcerpt from the book (with citation) related to the most significant or pivotal point in the reading
Example: "My father was crying. It was the first time I saw him cry. I had never thought it possible" (Wiesel 19).
T- Try to understand better by asking a question
Y- How does it relate to you? OR, if it does not relate to you; How did reading this make you FEEL?

Y This is intresting that he feals so different even though it is only "skin deep"

ReplyDelete(T) today is J. Griffins first day of being an African American, black, Negro, etc.
(EX) "how did one start? The night lay out there waiting. A thouasand questions presented themselves.
(T) why does griffin start his journey at night?
(Y) his incredible but scary journey is like me moving. Twice.
(T) John begins his first day (night) as a black man. He uses public transit, finds a hotel and seems to be getting along with other black people. (EX) I was interested when he said "Should I nod and say 'good evening,' or simply ignore him" (Griffin 12). (T) How does he get comfortable being in public so fast? It would take me twice as long. (Y) This guy has got to be my second favorite civil rights activist after MLK.

T = Is he going to end up in any tight spots?
Y = A lot of people know how it feels to be in an unfamiliar and scary place, but this is one of the most extreme examples.
t- He goes out into the woreld nad already starts noticing suddle changes in the way people are treating him

y- I have gon to a hotel before.
T: All i can say is wow some people back then...

Y: this part makes me feel like throttling one of those white people back then
(T) he leaves his freinds house as a black person.

(Y) wow how can they not recognize him. it must have been a huge transformation.

Y This guy is brave
T. Griffin took his first experience on a bus as a black man. One of the elderly white women went after him for looking at her.

T. I find it very cool that this guy has the guts to do this, and go threw it.
Y. When all is said and done, how's he going to become white again?
