Night 13-22

Thanks for the thoughtful discussion about the TEXTY format for this novel. You are an intelligent, caring, and articulate bunch.

T- Tell me something about what you read
EX- Write out an EXcerpt from the book (with citation) related to the most significant or pivotal point in the reading
Example: "My father was crying. It was the first time I saw him cry. I had never thought it possible" (Wiesel 19).

T- Try to understand better by asking a question
Y- How does it relate to you? OR, if it does not relate to you; How did reading this make you FEEL?

    T everyone was deported
    EX " a proolonged whistle pierced the air. the wheels began to grind. we were one our way" (wiesel pg 22)
    T how could the jewish police do this to there own religon?
    Y this makes me feel very depresed

    (T) All the Jewish people in the town were deported.
    (EX) The train starts rolling down the tracks as they were on there way to the camp.
    (T) Why where the Germans so mean to the Jewish people?
    (Y) These pages were very sad.

    T: they should have gotten to the window faster

    EX: "the hungarian police used their rifle butts, their clubs to indiscriminately strike old men, and women, children and cripples." (Wiesel page 16)

    T: what did Hitler>:( think he was going to gain by doing this

    Y: this relates to me because i have been treated badly for being jewish before

    T the jews eventualy get deported
    Ex To the last moment, people clung to hope.
    T why did noone accept reality?
    Yi have felt like i was being drivien out and i could do nothing about it.

    It did not say it on the website but i'll do it anyway. (T) They are deported little by little. (EX) They are last to go. (T) Why get people out of their homes with rifles and clubs. (Y) I am disgusted at the animosity towards innocent people.

    T they are all deported
    EX you are german.
    T why didn't they try to go out the back of there house
    Y i have felt traped before

    T. they were all rounded up and put on the trains.
    EX. "the yellow star? so what? It's not lethal (Poor Father! of what then did you die? (wiesel 13)
